The Fourth District Court of Appeal has a new Chief Judge

 

WEST PALM BEACH – The Honorable Spencer D. Levine was unanimously elected by his colleagues as Chief Judge of the Fourth District Court of Appeal, located in West Palm Beach, Florida, with his term beginning on July 1, 2019.

 

Chief Judge Levine is a judge on the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal.  He was appointed to the bench in April 2009 and retained by voters in 2010 and 2016.  His current term expires on January 2, 2023.  He will be responsible for all administrative matters of the Court.

 

Judge Levine previously served as an Assistant State Attorney in the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, where he was Chief of the Economic Crimes Division, as well as the Organized Crime and Official Corruption Unit.  He also served as the Director of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in the Florida Attorney General’s Office, and as General Counsel to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.  His professional activities include service as Chair of the Education Committee for the Florida Conference of District Court of Appeal Judges and as Chair of the Florida Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee.  Judge Levine has also served on the Florida Supreme Court Committee on Standard Jury Instructions for Criminal Cases, as well as Business and Contract Cases.  He has served on the faculty of the Florida College of Advanced Judicial Studies, the Gerald T. Bennet Prosecutor/Public Defender Trial Training Program, Florida New Appellate Judges Program, as well as being an Adjunct Professor for St. Thomas University School of Law and FIU School of Law.  He also served as Editor-in-Chief for “Judicature,” published by the Center of Judicial Studies at Duke Law.  In 2015 Judge Levine was given the “Outstanding Jurist Award” by the Craig S. Barnard American Inn of Court.

 

Judge Levine received his B.A. (cum laude) from New York University, his J.D from University of Miami School of Law, and his LL. M. in Judicial Studies from Duke Law.
